Enterprise Education & Financial Literacy for Young People aged 14 - 16
Running your Business
This workshop gives young people an exciting introduction to the possibilities of starting and running their own business and an in-depth look at business ownership. Students will enjoy games, activities, case studies and guest speakers as they learn about the characteristics and attributes of successful entrepreneurs and as they develop keys skills in communication, negotiation, problem solving, time management, business decision making and public speaking. They will assess their own skills, talents and interests that could be used to start a business and discover that entrepreneurship is a genuine career option for the future. Students go home with a new titles of 'chairperson' or 'owner' of their own company, with a working business plan, business cards, flyers and marketing plans - everything they need to generate sales from their first entrepreneurial ventures!
Objectives: At the end of the course, each student will be able to:
Running your Money This workshop introduces the basic concepts of earning, saving, spending and managing money. Students will participate in hands-on activities that demonstrate the importance of wise financial planning. Students are challenged to consider the value of money and evaluate their own attitudes toward spending and saving. It enables young people to understand vital personal finance, including saving and investing principles - knowledge that will empower them for a future of successful financial management. In addition, students learn skills in banking, budgeting and being a shrewd consumer including avoiding the overuse of credit. This course emphasises both the benefits of saving for short-term goals and the value of investing to meet long-term goals.

This 'Running your Business & Money' programme is designed to develop economic and business understanding required for Enterprise Education. It contributes to the Finance Strand of PSHE for Key Stages 3 and 4, as well as Key Skills and Wider Key Skills, and supports the aims of Every Child Matters.
